Don't get me wrong here. I think that Vanguard is an awesome looking game. Brads dream was far reaching and a good idea. But he reached too far, too hard, and wanted to be too much. He wanted to be "Brad the super creator"! The man who could do it a second time.

Brad, I cant tell you how glad I am you didn't make it!
And if you all take a peek around you'll see that he made a big promise financially and thus why Sony is knocking on his door.

Hey Brad, the poodle is over here buddy!

Vanguard just fails to deliver that good an experience, it was obvious from beta 3 on that the game was going to tank and fail to achieve the critical numbers needed to make it very viable - that was 18 months ago.
The game code is just plain nasty, you need a pc build with components chosen around the game. The content is great, and some of the game features really do have a touch of genius, but what sticks with you once you log off is that you just don't really regretting logging off. You need to rest your eyes from all the awful flickering and graphic transitions. Great ideas in V:SOH, perhaps a bit ahead of their time, just because the delivery hasn't been done very well at all. In a market of polished and/or established MMO's, V:soh just doesn't cut it yet. With the low numbers in the game now that the freeplay months have run out, low unit sales, and the massive development costs to be re-couped, I can't see V:SOH making much of a dent in the future, and I think that there's too much to fix to bring out quality and value for money expansions anytime soon. its going to be a small niche game, not a better version of eq.

LOTRO though, I think the linked post under-estimates just how good that game is.
It's not where WoW kiddies will end up, it where the old-eq players that Brad is chasing will end up - quest driven content, low time sinks, wonderful new player experience, very high population servers, lots of eye-candy quality graphics on low end machines, I could go on (for a while..).
And the best bit? You can make progress even with only a handful of play hours a week. With this game, I've fallen in love with MMPORG gameplay again. Shame that I had to turn of /ooc because of the free month WoW kiddies though.

I havn't tried Vanguard or LOTRO, although LOTRO sounds pretty cool - I am a pretty big Lord of the Rings fan (books / films) so a game that is decently made from the idea would fit me good.

Atm I'm playing WoW on a low schedual, from 0-1 hour pr day (Or I'd be raiding with you guys!). I understand your thoughts on WoW Eidle :) - although there arn't only 12-year-olds that plays WoW, but yet a tad too many. Had one or two decent conversations in WoW so far, but I still enjoy playing it, even though it has a "kids factor". I would have liked the graphics to be more real, but it isn't bad either. It is also a bit easy I think.

Not had nearly as much fun in WoW as I've been having in EQ for all the years that I've played it - although for EQ, I wouldn't care logging on for less than 2 hours. The 2nd problem with EQ is the bloody expansion race.

Well, that are my thoughts - a bit messy written, but o well.
